I am a retired Professor of Clinical Psychology, yet I maintain an active research portfolio at the Behavioral Sciences Research Institute, University of Puerto Rico Medical Campus.  I have over 30 years of clinical experience and have embedded much of my research into my own private practice as a Clinical Child Psychologist in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I have spent most of my career studying and helping children with attention-deficit hyperactivity/disorder (ADHD) and related conditions. In this web page I would like not only to summarize what it is known about this condition but to provide a description of our research in this area.

I place a special emphasis on Latino/Hispanic children living in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Iberoamerican countries. Often, these children are under diagnosed and under treated. In addition, their cultural background is usually not fully taken into consideration. Consequently, clinical interventions are implemented similarly across countries, ignoring that the cultural background of a child can significantly influence the expression of ADHD, the meaning given to these behaviors, the level of tolerance towards them, and the disposition to seek treatment.
